Canon Loyalty Program Offers Little-Known Deal

canon loyalty program

Stuck with outdated or broken equipment? Looking to make the jump to a digital SLR? Canon has a little-known loyalty program that could make the purchase of your next camera quite a bit cheaper.

If you’re shooting with a current Canon camera, you can upgrade it to a refurbished, newer model for a significant discount. Canon offers the following models as upgrade options:

- SD850 IS $150
- G9 $250
- EOS XT (with kit lens) $275

Any of the following Canon models qualify for the upgrade deal as long as they’re out of their current warranty period:

S10, S30, S40, S45, S50, S60, S100, S200, S230, S300, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD110, SD200, SD400, SD550, SD600, SD700-IS, SD800-IS, SD1000, S1-IS, S2-IS, G2, G5

This deal isn’t advertised, and you have to call Canon customer support at 866-443-8002 to get started. You’ll need to provide the serial number off your current digital camera in order to qualify. Each refurbished camera comes with a six month warranty.

The Rebel XT in particular is a great way to jump into digital SLR photography, as the camera is compatible with the entire EOS series of lenses. It’ll give the budding pro some room to grow.

That’s great to know. I wish they were brand new though.

And the XT is a two year old model now, I can’t say I know when the G9 or SD850 came out though.

  • Jack said:

Hmmm. I have some Canon 35mm gear laying around someplace. You think they’ll take that?

WOW! I just got off the phone with Canon and they’re willing to trade an ancient Powershot S110 for a Rebel XT! This sure is a sweet deal. Part of the deal is that your original camera needs service. So, out of warranty and something wrong with it are the conditions.

OK, I just got my e-mail confirmation from Canon. They will be shipping my refurb by FedEx and I’ll have it by Monday. The total was $35.00 more that the article above, but there is shipping, etc. Still a sweet price to pay considering that I upgraded from a 6 year old camera. I’ll check back and report on the condition of the Rebel when it arrives.

Well, it took 4 days longer to get the camera than I thought. But it was worth the wait. Sure, there is the newer 10 MegaPixel model on the market right now, but you can’t get one for anywhere near $310.00 USD.

The camera seems perfect. It is the silver model rather than the black model, but it is spotless. The finish is perfect. The lens is perfect as well; glass, finish and even the contacts are clean and shiny.

The kit came with everything I expected. Besides the camera body and lens there were the manuals + software, charger + battery, strap, eye-piece cover, all caps - everything except a cover for the hot shoe. But I don’t see where that is included even on newer models..

The pictures are great and all of the settings seem to work, I’ll need more time to be 100% sure about that.

    Thanks Canon..!

Very cool program - no doubt! unfortunately for me, I just called and my Elan IIe is not elligible. No film cameras are on the list… Still nice of Canon to do, though!

I tried this out this morning. I didn’t realize your camera had to be broken in some way in order to take advantage of this deal. Too bad, I was actually at the point of giving them my credit card before I found out. Kind of made we want to break my current S45, but it’s still a nice camera. Sounds like a great deal if your camera qualifies.

I got a G9 last week on the loyalty program. Add the G3 to your list of qualifying cameras because that’s what I traded in for mine. Also, your camera does NOT have to be broken in order to take advantage. There wasn’t a thing wrong with my G3 and the guy never even asked. Finally, I got my G9 a day EARLIER than they told me I would. Highly recommended.

Just received a refurb G9 for my busted SD700. Great deal! Not sure what would have happened if I didn’t indicate my SD700 had problems.

I’ve heard that refurbished slr cameras are just as good, in some cases even better than brand new cameras. Normally Canon receives these cameras just after the customers have bought them and found some small issues. Canon then goes through the whole camera, tests all functions throughly and replaces + retests all defect parts. So the camera you get is in 100% working order freshly maintained by Canon personell.

I just tried to use the service and was notified that the pricing has changed:

    The SD850 is still $150
    The G9 is now $359
    The XT is now $300

The rep said that the prices changed recently…

  • Matt said:

I called today and the prices have apparently changed again:

    The SD850 is still $150
    The G9 is still $359
    The XT is now $225.

  • Jeremy said:

Anybody if there are any other replacement cameras than the 3 listed?

I didn’t realize until some experiences recently just how good Canon customer service is. Nice!

SD850 seems to get you more bang for the buck at the latest prices. XT seems good too but too bulky. The G9 would have been the best deal at $250. The current $359 is kinda ok for the G9 but there are newer and better makes/models for that price. SD850 for $150 rocks and I’m upgrading from an old S200 2 MP elph.

  • Ryan said:

the price is back up again. they want like 340 for he g8 and 325 for the Rebel

  • Ranjeet said:

Still they are offering SD850 IS for 150, G9 for 359 and Rebel XT for 299
