Just as well I found your site, I bought my 40D last December coming from Olympus, I thought my
lack of experience was the reason for the out of focus, over exposure weak colours. So I was
right, is the camera, how dissapointing, lets see what Canon says, probably wont even answer,
this is not America, they give you the finger here. Cheers

I don't know about the cheapest price but I can second the recommendation for this lens - after all I've plugged it on my blog already. Good points are that it's cheap, it has a good focal length for portraits on a crop sensor and the image quality is very good indeed even on full frame. It's also very light.

Against this is plasticky - including the mount, it doesn't auto focus specially well and the manual phocus ring is a bit of afterthought.

Still, if you're interested in picture quality this really has to be a tremendous value buy because it combines a low price wuth a quality as good as the best.

I don't use mine as much as i should because of the convenience aspect of zoom lenses and I use good quality zooms- but this will motivate me to use it more.

Well, see what happens with my 40d. Purchased in January, used it three times. Was using it on a boat cruise one night, and started getting messages about re-inserting the battery. Did that, 30 minutes later, the battery died. Now, took it to a charity event, battery charged, got to the event, nothing. The camera is completely dead. The store swapped batteries and it still won't start up. A real drag for such an expensive camera, and now the wait is 4-6 weeks. This is the first time I've bought extended warranty and I think it will pay off.

I bought my 40D a week ago and went out to a volleyball game and my focusing is just like up above. Is the only solution to send it in or have you guys adjusted and settings that made it better?

SD850 seems to get you more bang for the buck at the latest prices. XT seems good too but too bulky. The G9 would have been the best deal at $250. The current $359 is kinda ok for the G9 but there are newer and better makes/models for that price. SD850 for $150 rocks and I'm upgrading from an old S200 2 MP elph.
